Sobremesa is a Spanish word that translates to “over the table.” However, the definition is way more complex. It encompasses the time family and friends spend at the table after a meal talking with each other, relaxing, digesting, etc. This is a time that is not meant to be rushed, but savored as an opportunity to listen, understand, and enjoy one another.
This blog was inspired by two trips taken by the blogger, Anaiya Moore, to Peru for a Spanish studies trip and Australia for a culinary internship. The trips were eye opening, exposing other ways of living, cuisines, and most importantly giving the opportunity for stories to be shared in ways that otherwise would not have been.
In today’s society, community, love, understanding, and shared testimonies will be the antidote that we need to improve our world. This blog is designed to administer those antidotes in several ways. First by providing recipes that are meant to be shared with family and friends, the vehicle for Sobremesa to take place. Secondly, by highlighting local eateries for the community to rally behind and financially support, which ultimately build the community as a whole. And finally, to share stories and experiences that have the ability to educate and free others.
